GrataTuesday-Because GrataThursday just sounds wrong.

The League of Elders It truly is amazing when you sit back and think about all the people that have helped shape your life.  Some people are there your entire life, others for just a short time.  For today's " Ooops I missed Tuesday, because I'm a working student and trying not to stress myself out" GrataTusday, on Thursday feature, I present to you my League of Elders.  Before I introduce the LoE, I have to pay homage to a young man who decided to take a break on a sunny hillside one August afternoon.  A few weeks beforehand, that young man and I were stumbling through an enchanted clearing and discovered the temporary dwelling of the Fairy Dread mother.  A lovely soul who had a Prius and a spinning wheel. Most would agree that taking ones spinning wheel camping is a bit out of the ordinary. If we only knew how very normal it would seem in our future. Garth took an interest in spinning after that weekend and acquired himself a drop spindle; a small handh...

GrataTuesday- A Crone's teachings

** PLEASE NOTE: GrataTuesday is brought to you in part by The Gratatoad and the numbers I, O and U** There is no way I could have possibly got where I am today without the love, advice, encouragement and life lessons bestowed upon me by my collection of fabulous humans.  So I have decided to do a GrataTuesday post to thank them and share what their influence has taught me with all of you. I will post a GrataTuesday shout out each week; there isn't any particular order to who will be featured each week; the surprise makes it fun, right? I will warn you now; there is a high likely hood of tears, so be ready.  Without further ado, the first member of my collection to be featured is everyone's favourite Chroin. A woman who deserves more credit than anyone could ever give her. She has been there, no matter what, for every one of the 18,396,000 minutes I have been kicking around this funny space rock.  It's all kind of her fault, really, well 50% of it anyway. ...

Sharing the Chocolate Chip Cookie of Knowledge

Tell me, and I forget. Teach me, and I may remember.  Involve me, and I will learn. -Benjamin Franklin If you were to ask my mother what my favorite word was as a child, she, without question, tell you it was not one but two words and they were...BUT WHY? I always needed to know why. Why is the sky blue? Why does it get dark at night? Why can't I go play in traffic?*...But Dad told me to. Mom did her very best to answer all my " BUT WHY's?" and even though school was never my strong point, I continued to learn as best I could.  School...a dreaded word for many children, parents and even teachers. If you were to ask most of my teachers through school, they would likely tell you that I was a good kid, but I lacked drive and focus, which I did, without question.  I was messy, disorganized, easily distracted, at times overly emotional and severely allergic to homework. Looking at that collection of symptoms now seems like a no brainer; something wasn't quite right. I...

The Dawn of a new day!

If you build it, they will come Welcome to my journey. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Lacey, but feel free to call me Bean (like the legume!). I am a 35-year-old who, in light of the changes that 2020 has brought us, decided that it was time to stop dreaming and start doing.  The dream that will become Nova Dawn Educational Farm started as a passing thought as I pulled away from the MV Fundy Rose's truck deck one sunny September afternoon. With my trusty four-legged sidekick, Penelope-Lynn (The world's best goat!) in the back seat of my well-loved hatchback, I travelled to my childhood home, heavy-hearted and at a loss with what to do with my life.  As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, I lost my job and wasn't sure what my future would hold.  Penelope would stay with my parents on their small hoppy** farm in Port Royal, Nova Scotia, until I could write the next chapter of my life.  The summer had been busy. As the Director of Programming and Outreach...
